Virginia Elaine (Covelli) Burens

January 31, 1939 ~ June 6, 2021 (age 82)

Virginia Burens of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania died on Sunday, June 6, 2021, after a battle with cancer.  Virginia, age 82, was born Virginia Elaine Covelli on January 31, 1939, in Clairton, Pennsylvania.  She was the youngest of six children born to Paul and Angelina (Belcastro) Covelli.  She lived her entire life within one mile of the family home on 12th Street in Clairton where she grew up.

She graduated from Clairton High school in 1956.  Virginia then married her husband, Harold “Peegie” Burens, after he returned from serving in the Marines, on May 5, 1963.  They were married for 56 years until his death in October of 2019.  She had a long career working for United States Steel at their service center in the South Side of Pittsburgh where she started in the keypunch division.  Virginia retired after working for US Steel for 39 years and 11 months in 1998.  She was an incredible cook (her eggplant parmesan and hot sausage were legendary).  She enjoyed decades of friendships at the Sons of Columbus Club (where she was an officer for many years) as well as the American Legion, but her greatest love in life was the opportunity to spend time with her extended family, especially her granddaughters.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Peegie Burens as well as her sister Rosaria Cingle and brother Joseph Covelli.  She is survived by her son, Vincent (Lori) Burens and their children, Mia and Tessa; as well as her siblings Alfred (Audrie) Covelli, Betty Santoline and Antoinette Covelli and many nieces and nephews.
