Obituary

OLGA KUZNIAR

Olga Bernadette Kuzniar, age 94, of Whitehall Borough in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania died peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at home surrounded by her children. She was born January 20, 1929, in Duryea, Pennsylvania, one of seven children of Andrew and Valeria (Roslewicz) Nazarek.

In addition to her parents, Olga was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Kuzniar, Sr. on April 26, 2008; her siblings and their spouses, Paul (Lee) Nazarek, Stanley (Helen) Nazarchuk, Genevieve Nazarek, Daniel Nazarchuk, Joan (Robert) Yesnowski and Constance Thompson

.

She is survived by her three children, Valerie A. Barnhardt and her husband, David, of Lakeland, Florida, John E. Kuzniar, Jr. and his wife, Edna Davis, of Whitehall Borough, and Mary E. Kuzniar of Whitehall Borough; three grandchildren, John A. Kuzniar, Brooke and her husband, Matt Olsen, and Jill Barnhardt; two great grandsons, Xavier and Jax; one remaining sister-in-law, Julie Nazarchuk, and many nieces and nephews.

Olga was a young high school graduate and ventured immediately to Washington, DC to join her older sister, Jenny, and begin her adult life.  There she met her husband, John, and they started their family; moving later to Baltimore, Maryland and ultimately to Pittsburgh.  Together, they loved to dance, bowl, play cards, and spend time with family and friends.  She had a long career working at the Social Security Administration, supervising the blind at a call center prior to her retirement.

There was nothing more important to Olga than her family and friends.  She was extremely kind, welcoming, hospitable, and non-judgmental.  Her home was warm and comfortable and she could always find room and food for one more at her dining room table.  Olga was an accomplished knitter, card player, loved solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles and growing tomatoes.  She was smart, curious and self-taught on the computer, which made it easier for her to pursue her favorite hobby, family genealogy and being the family historian.

There will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements will be privately held in the future.  Olga’s family suggests donations in memory of her be made to Bethany Hospice Memorial Fund, 400 Holiday Drive, Suite 101, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15220.  Arrangements are handled by the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home, Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania www.stephendslater.com (412-384-0350).

Olga’s independent, fun loving, kind spirit is already missed greatly by those who knew and loved her.
