Finleyville

John “Jack” Anton Neidermeyer, Jr ., age 71 of Finleyville, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, August 9, 2021.

He was born March 15, 1950, in Elrama, Pennsylvania the son of the late John Neidermeyer, Sr. and the late Antoinette (Mancini) Neidermeyer.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his son John Anton Neidermeyer, III, his sisters, Rhoda Lee Neidermeyer and Nancy Davis, and his beloved dog Chico.

Left to celebrate his life are his wife of 51 years, Kathie Jo (Wherry) Neidermeyer, his four children, Jacqueline (Shawn) Kiester, Maria (Chris) Capicotto,  Rhoda (Robert) Frye, Matthew (Brittany) Neidermeyer, and his sister Renee (Michael) Filewich.

Also left to cherish his memory is a legacy of twelve grandchildren, Billy (Tina), Nick, and Carly Bentley, Kenny and Kaleigh Trainer, Chance and Antonia Capicotto, Maylin and Maci Neidermeyer, Emma and Ayla Frye, and Matthew Neidermeyer; four great grandsons, Skylar, Nicco, Dominic and Maverick Bentley; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jack served in the Marines from  October 16, 1969 to  October 15, 1971, during which time, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He then served in the Marine Reserves until August 22, 1975, at which time he was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal.

‘Lightning’ Jack worked at Duquesne Light for 42 years before his retirement in 2010.  After that you could find him at his home, always building something in his garage or planting flowers. He made an oasis there for his family to enjoy with a pavilion, swing sets, and a heart shaped pond. He never turned away anyone that stopped to see him. Instead you would be offered food or a beer and lots of conversation.  He was a very animated story teller and could talk to you for hours about anything. He was the first person you turned to for instruction about gardening, canning, or building anything. He loved to cook, can his garden vegetables, make beef jerky, soppressata and wine, which he gave away at the very mention of it.

He was actively involved in the Elrama Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for many years as President and then Trustee.  During those years you could find him every community day near the fires, roasting the pig and lamb, or stopping to talk to friends. Jack was also an avid hunter, loved to fish, and watch and care for the animals that passed through his property. He was also very involved at the Elrama Sportsmen's Club.

We could write a book filled with Jack’s adventures and accomplishments. He was truly a ‘Jack of all Trades’, a friend to all, and will be dearly missed by his wife and family and everyone who knew him.

Friends will be received on Sunday, August 15th from 3 – 7 pm and Monday, August 16th from 2-4 & 6 – 8 pm at Stephen Slater Funeral Home, 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, PA 15025.
