David Anderson

May 11, 1947 — April 9, 2022

South Park Township

David Anderson, age 74 of South Park, Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at his home.  David was born on May 11, 1947, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, the second of four children to John Eric “Jack” Anderson and Jean Reed (Manor) Anderson.

He graduated from West Mifflin North High School in 1965 and then attended West Virginia University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Speech: Radio, TV, and Film Production in 1971.  While at WVU, he was a photojournalism instructor and a member of the Advanced ROTC program, joining active military service for the Army upon graduation.  In the military he acted as Director of Public Affairs for the US Army installation at Ft Stewart, Georgia, and commanded a Petroleum Testing Laboratory and Quality Assurance Section.  He was recommended for promotion “ahead of his contemporaries” to the military grade of Captain, which was his rank when he ended his military career with an Honorable Discharge.  David was incredibly proud of his years of service.

David later attended Duquesne University, where he received a Master of Arts in Business Communications in 1984.  He went on to work for KDKA TV, producing live business news segments and other features. He later produced and directed a series of local sports programs for Community Access TV.  David was an accomplished photographer and worked in the fields of public relations, industrial, and architectural photography under the business name of Anderson Photographics. His technical talents extended beyond photography and videography, and he spent several years working as a sound and lighting technician at the Carnegie Music Hall.

David went on to work with the Union Railroad, where he acted as conductor in the Transportation Division. His coworkers would endearingly refer to him as ‘Swede’, a nickname he shared with his father, stemming from their Swedish heritage.

David was an active member of his church, Windover Hills United Methodist, and later Christ United Methodist Church.  While at Windover Hills, David served in several volunteer capacities, including Vice President and Treasurer for the Board of Trustees, and later as a founding member of the Praise Band.

David was an engaged community member, serving on the Board of Trustees for the South Park Township Public Library.  He was known to many friends and neighbors for his talents and general knowledge for skilled woodworking and craftsmanship.  He was often the first call when anyone needed assistance due to his skillset and willingness to help.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Anderson, his son-in-law, John Weddington, his granddaughter, Hadley McDade, and his sister-in-law Nancy Vick.

David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn (Vick) Anderson; two daughters, Kristin Weddington of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Suzanne (Kevin) McDade of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Lexi Weddington and Anderson McDade; two sisters, Janet (Dennis) Martinich of Lansing, Michigan, and Donna (Michael) Babjak of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Barbara Anderson of Wexford, Pennsylvania, and brother-in-law, George Vick of Knoxville, Tennessee; nieces and nephews Jennifer, Erica, John, Becky, Lauren, Emily, Bryan, Philip and Paul and their families.

David was and remains a beloved Husband, Father, PapPap and Friend, and will be greatly missed.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from 12 - 2 pm and 5 – 7 pm in the Stephen D.
