ANNA MAE  (LOMBARD)  CATHELL

Anna Mae Cathell, age 88 of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2020.  She was born, Anna Mae Lombard on March 10, 1932 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one of five children of Frank P. and Lucy M. (Ferrero) Lombard.

Anna Mae loved spending time with her late husband and best friend, James Ray Cathell, who died in 2004.  They loved eating breakfast out, traveling and just appreciating the “little things in life” together.  One of those “little things” was bowling.  They met and spent their first date bowling and belonged to bowling teams for many years.

She was a member of the Jefferson Hills Women’s Club.  Anna Mae enjoyed her monthly “Girls Night Out” with her great friends in the “Sewing” club.  For many years, she spent time as an avid artist, dabbling in oil painting and stippling pieces.  She was a longtime member and volunteer at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in the Floreffe area of Jefferson Hills.  She kept her mind sharp completing a crossword puzzle daily and reading a great mystery book.  In her later years, she enjoyed a good “romantic comedy” and watching her favorite television channel, the Game Show Network.

Anna Mae valued family dinners every night of the week; treating her children as guests with her table always dressed with a table cloth and placemat for everyone.  She loved a good glass of wine paired with an exquisite piece of dark chocolate.  She was a woman of great wisdom, with endless time and energy for her family.  It was said of her “she was soft spoken and carried a wooden spoon!”

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Cathell in 2004 and all four of her siblings, sisters, Margaret Antonelli, Lucille Wollenschlaeger, Dorothy Love and brother, Frank Lombard.  Anna Mae is survived by her seven children, J. Michael Cathell of Fort Myers, Florida, Sally Cathell of Jefferson Hills, David R. (Linda) Cathell of Groveland, Florida, Donald F. Cathell of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, Thomas E. (Joan) Cathell of Lower Burell, Pennsylvania, Kenneth J. (Marilou) Cathell of Whitehall, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Gerald S. (Jennifer) Cathell of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Jason, Brian and Lauren Cathell, Mia Cathell, Emily Pingitore, David Keith Cathell, Bethany Buck, Thomas J. Cathell, Phillip McNeish, Nathan and Adam Cathell and great grandchildren, Tyler, Blake and Spencer Pingitore, Connor and Lila Cathell and Landon and Lucas Buck.

A family visitation will be held in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home and a private family funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Thomas A’ Becket Catholic Church in Jefferson Hills.  Anna Mae will buried next to her husband in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Peters Township, Pennsylvania.
