Walter "Butch" Curry

Walter E. “Butch” Curry, 85, of Finleyville, Washington County, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025. A farmer and former Marine, Butch was a man of integrity and quiet reserve who loved the long days and hard work of maintaining the family farm.

Born and raised on the family farm, Butch was the youngest son of the late James M. Curry and Mary G. Lawson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy — his high school sweetheart — and his seven siblings: sisters Betty Murray, Martha Christofel, Jean Curry, Myra Lou Lovell, and Mary Ann Curry; and brothers Robert and James Curry.

A few years after graduating from Clairton High School, Butch joined the Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal by the time he was honorably discharged in 1965. He later built a house on the family farm, where he would live for most of his life. While installing drywall paid the bills, the farm was a labor of love. He loved nothing more than tending to his animals and keeping his garden immaculate. He always had the best produce around, and beef from the Curry farm was second to none.

Butch is survived by his son, David (Mandy) Curry, and grandson, Spencer Curry, of Middletown, Virginia; and his stepdaughter, Jody (Lloyd) Fleming, of Long Beach, California. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 10 am - 12 Noon in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home, 1701 Route 51, Jefferson Hills, PA 15025 (412-384-0350), www.stephendslater.com. Butch’s funeral service will be in the funeral home at 12 Noon at the conclusion of the visitation. His burial, next to Judy, will be held privately at Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery.
