Walter W. Buches, age 89 of Jefferson Hills died on Wednesday, November 6, 2013.  He was born April 23, 1924 in Clairton, one of two sons of Stephen and Tekla Buches.  Walter worked for US Steel’s Irvin Works for over 35 years as a Metallurgical Lab Technician and in his retirement, he was a “Stuffer” for the Daily News.  He served in the Army during WW II; was a “die-hard” St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan; loved backyard volleyball and a good “Thunderbay” and was known for keeping a “crystal clear” swimming pool for family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth (Schultz) Buches; five children, Dorothy, Gregory, Lawrence, Donna and Diane and eight grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 2 to 9 PM on Friday in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills.  A prayer will be held in the funeral home at 11:45 AM on Saturday, with Mass of Christian Burial in St. Clare of Assisi Parish at 12:30 PM.   Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Clare Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers family suggests contributions be made for Ovarian Cancer research.
