Tom Hurrell, age 87 of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2018. He was born, Thomas Snowden Hurrell, on February 2, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 1 of 2 children of Raymond Charles and Ethel Loretta (Fryer) Hurrell.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran that served during the Korean War. Tom worked for over 40 years, retiring from US Steel as a Data Processing Technician on Main Frame Computers in the Pittsburgh Headquarters. He was a member of Pine Run United Methodist Church in Wilson, Clairton, Pennsylvania; was formerly involved with the Jefferson Hills, Pleasant Hills and Glassport Lions Clubs; and was a liaison for the Beacon Lodge District 14B. Tom earned two awards he was extremely proud of; being a member of Lions International, he earned a Melvin Jones Fellow award and with the Boy Scouts of America, he earned the prestigious Silver Beaver Award from the Monongahela Valley Council in 1971.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Virginia (Reed) Hurrell in 2009. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Tush) Hurrell; 4 children, Karen Lynn Hamerski of West Mifflin, Thomas “Tim” (Deborah) Hurrell of Eighty Four, Pennsylvania, Don Charles (Renee) Hurrell of San Antonio, Texas and Dean Craig (Jeanie) Hurrell of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 8 grandchildren, Sandi, Rainna, Kristen, Lauren, Megan, Scott, Tyler and Collin; 7 great grandchildren, Abby, Kiera, Ashlee, Sarah, Joshua, Reid and Kinleigh and 1 sister, Bernice Lemmon of Florida.
A reception of friends will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 3 – 7 PM in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home, 1701 Route 51 (Large) Jefferson Hills 15025. His memorial services will follow immediately at 7 PM with a service by the Jefferson Hills Lions and his funeral service by Pastor Michael Airgood of the Pine Run United Methodist Church. Tom's committal service with Military Honors will be Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 9:30 AM in Lebanon Church Cemetery in West Mifflin.
