SARAH  "SALLY"  LAWSON

Sally Lawson, age 90 of Mt. Lebanon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, in her home with family members by her side. Sally was born Sarah Lois Montgomery in Shadyside, Ohio on June 1, 1935, the daughter of the late Joseph Franklin Montgomery and Phoebe Elizabeth (Taylor) Montgomery.

She was the manager of the college bookstore for the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), North Campus for over 20 years until her retirement in 2000.

In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her son, William Grantland Lawson in December of 2003 and her sister, Nancy Gilmer in December of 2001.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, William Roger Lawson; their daughter, Dawna (James) Schroeder of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania and son, Pastor Peter (Pastor Joyce) Lawson of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Drew Schroeder, Lauren “Lizzy” Lawson, Emily (Kyle) Melewski, Claire (Alex) Barker, Ethan Lawson, Taylor (Zach) Kurtz, and Sarah Schroeder; eight great grandchildren, Elin, Kyle, and Hannah Melewski, Ellery and Wesley Barker, Ellianna and Walker Kurtz, and Beckett Lawson; her sister Janice Parish; her brother Joseph (Beth) Montgomery.

Sally’s greatest joy was her family. She truly loved and thrived on being a mother to her three children, a grandmother to her seven grandchildren, and a great grandmother to her eight grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed and loved sharing in the various phases of their lives and gave selflessly of herself to them.

Sally’s life was guided by a deep abiding faith in God and commitment to her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Her faith was a light which shined in the many different facets of her life and this light touched many lives. She was a tremendously caring person and was especially drawn to provide comfort and support to those who suffered sorrow and adversity. She lived her life in service and love for others. This aspect of who she was will be greatly missed.

There will be a Gathering of family and friends on Monday, June 30, 2025 in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 (412-384-0350) www.stephendslater.com from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at which time a Memorial Service will be held in the funeral home.
