Robert Edward Bonivich, age 88 of the Wall Plan in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, passed away at The Villages, Florida on Sunday, May 18, 2025. He was born on October 29, 1936, in Maidsville, West Virginia, one of four children of John Alferd Bonivich and Opal Mae (Richards) Bonivich.
Robert grew up in Maidsville and after high school served in the US Air Force during the peacetime between the Korean and Vietnam wars. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed in Germany.
He was an automotive mechanic and owned his own gas station in the Wilson section of Clairton, Pennsylvania. Robert loved hunting, fishing, and was a Steelers season pass holder for many years. He was a Past Master of Omni Lodge #582 F&AM in Dravosburg and Past Patron of Clairton Chapter #316 OES. He served on the Advisory Board of Hope Assembly #186 Rainbow Girls for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his four siblings, his sisters, Mary and Francis and brothers, John and William. Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis (Eastham) Bonivich; two children, son, Daniel (Andrea) Bonivich of The Villages, Florida, and daughter, Jackie Burkett of White Oak, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Brian Burkett, Katie (Brian) McGuire, Robyn Bonivich, and David (Ana) Bonivich, and two great grandchildren, Jordyn McGuire and Dalton Bonivich.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 5:30 – 8:30 pm in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 (412-384-0350) www.stephendslater.com. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 7 pm followed by a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm and his Funeral Service at 8 pm with Pastor Jody Dousey officiating.
Robert will be buried with Military Honors in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 10:30 am.
