RICHARD “HAF” HAFNER
Richard Francis Hafner, age 84 of Clairton, Pennsylvania, died on Monday, April 26, 2021 at his home. He was born on April 20, 1937 in Clairton one of two children of Sam K. and Ann Marie (Salopek) Hafner.
He grew up in Clairton and was a graduate of Clairton High School class of 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and the Reserves for two years during the time between the Korean War and Vietnam War. Richard received a Bachelor’s degree from California University and a Master’s in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. He then taught for 26 years for the South Allegheny School District.
His favorite past time was listening to Jazz music and Droopy’s (Blaine Hill BBQ) Ribs and Batman Sause.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald Hafner and is survived by wife of 54 years, Barbara Ann (Bauerle) Hafner; two daughters, Kelly (Steve) Cherepko of Elizabeth, Pennsylvania and Kristen Peterson of Whitehall Borough in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Logan Cherepko and Kyli Peterson and nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 www.stephendslater.com on Friday, April 30, 2021 from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM. A Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 10 AM. His burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania.
All visitors to the funeral home must wear a mask at all times. During this difficult time, please sign the family register book, visit briefly with Richards’ family, respecting the social distancing rules for gatherings and take leave so that others may do the same.
