Reverend Robert “Bob” Koschik, passed away peacefully at his home in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Bob was born Robert William Koschik in Braddock, Pennsylvania on November 13, 1947, one of two sons of Carl Andrew Koschik and Anna Susan (Wlahofsky) Koschik.
He was a graduate of Churchill High School, Point Park College and the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Ordained as a Presbyterian Minister, Bob served the Jefferson United Presbyterian Church in Jefferson Hills, PA and the First United Presbyterian Church of Boston in McKeesport, PA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Koschik. Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn “Evie” Jean (Ullom) Koschik; their son, Dr. Robert W. Koschik II and his wife Maria; three granddaughters, Domenica Gabrielle, Amelia Maria and Cecelia Evelina Koschik; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Koschik and nephews, Jim and Ken Koschik. He had many cousins and friends that he held dear to his heart.
After earning a journalism degree from Point Park, Bob worked as a part-time librarian at Hillman Library on the University of Pittsburgh campus. It was there he met the love of his life, Evie, working as a key punch card operator. She was impressed when she found out that Bob had a car and was going to pick her up for their first date instead of taking a bus.
They married in 1973, and Bob earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity. He became the pastor of Jefferson United Presbyterian Church and remained there for 34 years until his retirement in 2010. Bob had a natural gift for preaching and was able to help the congregation see the word of God in their own lives. Bob was always willing to hear people out and was revered for his patient and gentle demeanor.
Bob came out of retirement to serve as part time pastor at the United Presbyterian Church of Boston. He was able to use his wisdom and experience to lead the congregation at Boston through the church’s closure in 2018.
Bob touched many lives throughout his career and made many good friends along the way. He was still in contact with many friends from seminary, the Pittsburgh Presbytery, Jefferson, and Boston up until his passing.
Once fully retired, Bob spent his free time babysitting his granddaughters, watching Pirates/Steelers/Penguins/Panthers games, reading theological novels, meeting friends for lunch, and vacationing in Amish Country. He rarely left home without wearing a Pittsburgh sports team hat or shirt. He and Evie enjoyed volunteering at SHIM (South Hills Interfaith Ministry) food bank. He joined Hamilton Presbyterian Church as a congregant and made many good friends during his time there.
Bob was diagnosed with cancer in 2022, and his treatment was overseen by Dr. Amjad Jalil and many wonderful healthcare workers at Jefferson Hospital. He and his family were grateful for his positive response to the treatment and cherished their additional time together until his passing.
He is with the Lord and is at peace.
