Michael Joseph “Mike” Daley, 73, of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, sailed into the mystic peacefully at home on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
He was born before the wind in Pittsburgh on November 5, 1952. Mike was one of four children born to the late Thomas L. and Anita Constance (Ernest) Daley. He grew up in Brookline and attended South Hills High School before earning his Associate’s Degree in Electronics.
Mike began his career at Mesta Machine Company in West Homestead, Pennsylvania as a crane operator, where he met the love of his life, Dale Ann Morningstar. He later worked for many years in the telecommunications and utility industries, including positions with phone and gas companies throughout Pittsburgh as companies evolved and changed over the years. No matter the company name on the building, Mike was known for his hard work, humor, and ability to make people laugh.
Of all the roles he held in life, his favorite was being “Pap Pap” to his granddaughters.
Mike lived with a free spirit that could only be described as a “gypsy soul”. He was a natural storyteller, jokester, and the kind of person who could make a room lighter just by walking into it. He loved classic rock and blues music, playing the drums, riding his Harley-Davidson with friends, and taking road trips both out west and close to home. He had a well-known sweet tooth, a secret stash of cookies and chocolate, and never missed a chance to turn the music up loud.
More than anything, Mike loved his family deeply and leaves behind countless memories filled with laughter, sarcasm, stories, and love.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Dale Ann (Morningstar) Daley; his children, son, Edward Daley and daughter, Julie (Matthew) Kenavey, of Jefferson Hills; his cherished granddaughters, Kallie, Quinn, and Bristol Kenavey; his brother, Gregg (Barb) Daley of Brookline; and his sisters, Kathy Brisco and Mary (David) Wagner of Bethel Park, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Family and friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 (412-384-0350) www.stephendslater.com on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 2 – 6 PM. A Prayer / Funeral service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 6 pm.
Though he is gone, his laughter, stories, and music will stay with those who loved him forever — and when the foghorn blows, they’ll think of Mike.
In lieu of flower his family suggests donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pittsburgh Chapter or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Michael’s name.
