Matilda “Tillie” Brindza, 85, of the Floreffe area in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026. She was born on March 15, 1940 in Donora, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Michkanin) Pazej. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William “Bill” Brindza, brother John (Maryann) Pazej, and sister Lillian (Robert) Streyle. She is survived by her three children, Diana (Paul) Catania of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, Bill (Becky) Brindza Jr. of Douglasville, Georgia, and Brenda (Jerry) Deacon of Marietta, Georgia; Five grandchildren, Anthony Catania of Oklahoma City, Julee (Alex) Bryant of Charleston, West Virginia, Dedra Brindza, Carl Brindza, and Anna (Chris) Wilson of Douglasville, Georgia; one great-grandchild, Marco Bryant of Charleston, West Virginia; nieces and nephews, Nancy (Mark) Cain of Salem, West Virginia, Robert Streyle, Jr. of Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania, and Christine Pazej of Claremore, Oklahoma.
Tillie was well known for her cake decorating, making many birthday cakes and wedding cakes for friends and family over the years. She also taught cake decorating at the local community college. She was a member of the Christian Mothers of the former Saint Isaac Jogues parish, as well as the Women’s Auxiliary of the Elrama Fire Department. Tillie was creative and crafty, a baker, seamstress, crocheter, and always making something by hand. She also hosted card club for many years with friends at her home in Floreffe.
Friends and family will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home, 1701 Route 51, Jefferson Hills, PA 15025 on Thursday March 5, 2026 from 3-8 PM. On Friday, March 6, 2026, there will be a Prayer in the funeral home at 10 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in the Saint John XXIII parish (St. Francis of Assisi Church), 3609 Washington Avenue, Finleyville, Pennsylvania. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Carroll Township, Monongahela, Pennsylvania.
