MARY  "MINKA"  (ZUPANCIC)  BUCAR

Minka Bucar, age 91, a long time farmer and business woman in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania died on Wednesday, April 6, 2016.  She was born on August 11, 1924 in Slovenia. During World War II she worked in Library, Pennsylvania for Federal Supply, pumping gas, changing tires and running deliveries.  This “hard working gal” impressed a Croatian businessman named Ivan Bucar, who swept her off her feet and married her.  Minka was a great cook who made her own “smoked” kolbassi, loved making wine, Polka dancing, gardening and traveling.  Everyone who knew “quick witted” Minka was always invited to her fruit cellar for a glass of wine and a lot of laughs!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan N. Bucar, Sr; three of her children, daughter, Rose Marie Farrar and sons, John and David and a son-in-law Miles Hodges.  She is survived by four children, Grace Hodges, Larry (Debbie) Bucar, Carol Ann (Frank Kaszycki) Bucar and Rebecca Bucar; son-in-law Steve Farrar; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew, Brooke and Nicholas and one great grandson, Charles.

Friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills on Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 1 – 4 and  6 – 9 PM and on Monday, April 11, 2016 from 11 AM until the time of a Blessing Service at 1 PM in the funeral home. Her burial will be in St. Casimir Cemetery.  Father Dan Maurer of St. Thomas A’Becket Catholic Church in Jefferson Hills will officiate the Blessing and Committal Services for Minka.
