MARY ELIZABETH "BETTY" (HOLMES) MILLER

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Miller, age 90, of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, died on Tuesday, February 17, 2015.  She was born Mary Elizabeth Holmes on November 13, 1924 in West Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, one of three daughters of John William Holmes and Isabel MacFarlane (Bucy) Holmes.  Betty graduated from Clairton High School in Clairton, Pennsylvania in 1942; attended Grace Martin Business School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and then began a career at US Steel’s Irvin Works in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, where she retired after 30 years of service.  She was the oldest living member of the West Elizabeth Presbyterian Church in West Elizabeth and donated her pension to the church yearly since 1974.  Betty had many lifelong friends and was loved by all who knew her.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Pauline (Holmes) Garden and is survived by her husband of 57 years, Marlin “Moon” Miller; son, John Holmes Miller of New Orleans, Louisiana and her sister, Margaret (Holmes) Gieske.

Friends will be received on Friday from 2 – 5 PM in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills, where her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 AM.  The Reverend Janice Holmes of the Olivet Presbyterian Church in West Elizabeth will officiate and her burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania, where she will be buried next to her parents and grandmother, Margaret (Young) Bucy.
