MARY (SLONAKER) BURKE


Mary Burke, age 79, of Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania, died Friday, May 27, 2011.  She was born March 1, 1932 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania a daughter of Walter C. and Thelma (Holt) Slonaker.  Mary worked as a Telephone Operator until rotary phones came into existence and over 20 years at Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania as an Escort and in the Mail Room.  She was a Sunday School Teacher, Choir member and Elder at the Olivet Presbyterian Church in West Elizabeth, Pennsylvania.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Davis.  She is survived by her husband of almost 59 years, David R. Burke; 3 sons, David J. Burke, Paul E. (Terry) Burke and Duane Lee (Patricia Ann) Burke all of Elizabeth Township; 1 daughter, Beth Ann (Douglas) Parker of Poolsville, Maryland; 8 grandchildren, Jeffery D. Burke, Lucas Burke, Gia Love, Michael Edward Burke, Stephanie, Emma, Grace and Faith Parker; 1 brother, Walter C. Slonaker of Jefferson Hills and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM, Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in the  Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 State Route 51 (Large) Jefferson Hills.  Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:45 AM on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 with the Reverend Walt Pietschmann of the Olivet Presbyterian Church officiating.  Burial will follow at 1:30 PM in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania.
