Moon Miller, age 87 of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania died Thursday, March 24, 2016. He was born Marlin Gene Miller on July 26, 1928 in Jefferson Borough, Pennsylvania, one of three children of Clair Elwood Miller and Margaret Eva (Williams) Miller. Moon graduated from Clairton High School in Clairton, Pennsylvania, class of 1946 and began work shortly thereafter at Pennsylvania Industrial Chemical Corporation (PICCO). He enlisted in the United States Army in 1949 and served in various combat roles in Korea until 1952. He was very proud of his service in Korea.
After the war, he went back to work at PICCO and enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 1961 with a degree in Business Administration. He continued to work at PICCO in various sales positions until the company was acquired by Hercules Incorporated in 1973. Over the next 18 years with Hercules, Moon was promoted into sales and management roles in Boston, Chicago and Wilmington, Delaware. He retired in 1991 with 46 years of service. He and his wife Betty enjoyed over 20 years of retirement with great friends and golf at the Hercules Country Club. They relocated back to the Pittsburgh area in 2012. He was a longtime member of the West Elizabeth Presbyterian Church in West Elizabeth, Pennsylvania.
Moon was loved and respected by all who knew him and was a mentor to young sales people who worked for him. His kindness and genuine interest in people was evident in the many visits and calls from people he has known all his life. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, Moon was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Holmes) Miller and his brother, Clair Edward Miller. He is survived by his son, John Holmes Miller of New Orleans; his sister Phyllis (Miller) Pastore of Jefferson Hills and nieces and nephews.
Moon will be cremated and buried in a grave with his wife Betty in Round Hill Cemetery. A Committal Service with Military Honors will be in the Chapel at Round Hill Cemetery on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11 AM with the Reverend Judi Slater officiating..
