MARJORIE A. BITZER
Marjorie Bitzer, age 89, of Burke, Virginia, formerly of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania died on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Prince William Hospital in Virginia. She was born on August 17, 1923 in Clairton, Pennsylvania, Marjorie Ann Gawlas, one of nine children to Francis "Frank" Jerome Gawlas and Hannah Elizabeth (Smith) Gawlas. She was an excellent homemaker and loved spending time with her family. While in Penn Hills she and her husband of 73 years, John H. "Jack" Bitzer were members of the Mt. Hope Community Presbyterian Church on Frankstown Road.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her sibilngs, Regis, Kenneth and Harold Gawlas, Evelyn Erickson, Patricia Potts, Roberta Mulvihill, Jean “Neddy" Strassen and Gail Greenwald McCormley. Her survivors include her loving husband, Jack; two daughters, Connie Scanlon and her husband Jerry of Virginia; Diane Wright and her husband Ray of Delaware and Jack Bitzer and his wife Jo Ann of Florida; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.
Friends will be received Friday, December 28, 2012 from 6 – 8 PM in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 State Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11 AM with the Reverend Jay Lewis of the Mt. Hope Community Presbyterian Church offiicating. Interment wil be in Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery in Pleasant Hills, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
