Marian "Ya Ya" Sweeney

Marian “Ya Ya” Sweeney, age 72 of Venetia, Pennsylvania, went to be with Jesus on Friday, August 21, 2026. Her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 54 years, Ronald Sweeney, remained by her side in the hospital.

She was born on July 22, 1954, a daughter of Mary (Jurisevich) and Michael Mateskovich of Pittsburgh, PA.

Marian was a beautician of many years, who took pride in keeping herself “together” from her nails, to her hair, to the clothes she wore. She achieved the status as a “Master” in Tang Soo Do Karate and enjoyed participating in this form of Karate with her daughter, Kara and grandchildren, Jessica, Alexander and Sydney.

Later in her life, as the expression goes, Marian “put some miles on it” while learning line dancing. She loved being outdoors, hiking, boating, camping, and sightseeing.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by husband, Ron; her daughter, Kara and husband, James F. Bagnell, Jr.; three grandchildren, Jessica, Alexander and Sydney Bagnell; her sister, Barbara Kelly and niece, Cindy.

Family and friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, PA 15025 (412-384-0350) www.stephendslater.com on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 3 – 7:30 pm at which time a Celebration of her life will be held.

Marian will be missed by her family and friends.
