Maria Gianaris

Maria Gianaris, age 83, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. She was born in Kollines, Greece, on August 23, 1941, the daughter of the late Christos and Stamatia (Kostaki) Merageas.

Maria was an avid gardener and a Seamstress, who worked for Kaufmann’s, Horne’s, Gimbel’s and Macy’s Pittsburgh and South Hills Stores. She was a member of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Nicholas “Jimmy” Gianaris in 2019. She is survived by their two children, son, Nicholas (Jody) Gianaris and daughter, Elaine Gianaris, both of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, Alexandra Gianaris of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and her brother, Christos (Demetra) Merageas of Greece.

Maria’s visitation and funeral service will be on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 123 Gilkeson Road, Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania 15228. Her visitation will be from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, with her funeral liturgy following at 12:30 pm. She will be buried, next to her husband, in Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery, Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania 15236 immediately after the liturgy in the church.

Maria passed to Christ our Lord on the feast day of St. Bartholemew the Holy Apostle and on her daughter’s birthday. May her Memory be Eternal!
