LUNDY THOMAS

Yolanda “Lundy” S. Thomas, passed away peacefully in the company of her family, on January 12, 2018 at Providence Point Healthcare Center in Scott Township, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Born on August 10, 1929 in Clairton, Pennsylvania, she was the fifth child of Italian immigrants, the late Giocondo and Maria (Mazzaferri) Sidone.

Lundy met her husband, Alexander “Al” Thomas, at a dance and was married on June 2, 1951.  The couple raised their family in Pleasant Hills Borough, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where they resided for 40 years.  She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.  After raising their three children, Lundy and Al traveled extensively and spent their winters in Florida.  Lundy was active in the Canterbury Women’s Guild at St. Thomas a’Becket Roman Catholic Church, where she was a long-time parishioner, and the Pleasant Hills Garden Club.  She was a member of the Ladies 9 Hole League for many years at Youghiogheny Golf Course and also enjoyed cooking and playing bridge.  Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.  She had many friends and entertained frequently.

She leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Al, also residing at Providence Point; two daughters, Donna (Ric) Herald of Leesburg, Virginia and Linda (Jon) Bartlett of Chatham, New Jersey; one son, Michael (Karen) Thomas of Kennilworth, Illinois; five grandchildren, Michael Herald, Krista (Drew) Balzer, Jack Bartlett, Anne Marie Thomas and Michael Thomas; brother-in-law, Robert D. Ward, and many nieces and nephews.  Lundy was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Mary (Frank) Stehney, Arthur Sidone (Purple Heart WWII), Vic (Helen) Sidone, Lisa (Tony) Persichetti and Josephine “Minnie” Ward.

Friends will be received in the STEPHEN D. SLATER FUNERAL HOME 1701 Route 51 (Large) Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 3 – 8 PM and on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM.  There will be a prayer in the funeral home at 12:45 PM with Mass of Christian Burial following at 1:30 PM in St. Thomas A’ Becket Roman Catholic Church in Pleasant Hills.  Her burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery in Pleasant Hills.
