Lucy (Conn) Thatcher

Lucy C. Thatcher, age 106, of Jefferson Hills and Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania, passed away of old age on Sunday, July 17, 2022.

Lucy was born April 23, 1916 in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1 of 4 children of the late Laird and Alice (Hasley) Conn. She graduated from Taylor Alderdice High School in 1934, where she was a 5 sport varsity athlete and straight A student. She then went onto study at the University of Pittsburgh on a full academic scholarship. She was a high school biology teacher in the Springdale School District and Pittsburgh Public Schools. During WWII she worked at an ammunitions factory for Ford Motor Company. Lucy was a member of the Pleasant Hills Garden Club, the College Club of Pittsburgh, and a golfing member of South Hills Country Club, where she was the 1975 Women’s Club Champion.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Thatcher; son, Charles A. Thatcher, Jr.; and all of her siblings, Lowry Conn, Malcolm Conn, and Marian Koberlein. She is survived by her son, John H. (Vicky) Thatcher; daughter in law, Cindy Thatcher; 8 Grandchildren, Cathy (Brendan) Perry, Chuck (Erin) Thatcher, Susan (Hayden) Ort-Ulm, William Thatcher, Michael (Julie) Thatcher, Brian (Cathy) Thatcher, Kristen (Nate) Hedrick, and Karen (Jake) Grice; 14 Great Grandchildren; a former daughter in law, Maggie Thatcher; Nieces, Lettitia Taucher Palmer, Karen Koberlein Crabtree, and many other nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Lucy will be held at Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home on Saturday, September 24th at 11am with Pastor Mathew Magera of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. There will be an hour of visitation from 10-11 am.

Lucy loved her family, and she was a much loved mother, aunt, grandmother and gigi (great grandmother).
