Lucy (Serapiglia) Plavchak

Lucy Plavchak, age 91, of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, formerly of Clairton, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015, in Forbes Hospice at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  She was born Lucia Ann Serapiglia on October 14, 1923, in Clairton, one of six children of Angelo and Adelina (DiLegge) Serapiglia.  She was the former owner of Lucy’s Restaurant and Catering in the Wilson Section of Clairton; formerly a cook at Barella’s in Jefferson Hills and the Sons of Columbus in Clairton.  As a cook, she was famous for her legendary nut rolls.  Lucy was a receptionist for her son-in-law, the late Dr. John E. Fallon Jr., D.M.D.  She graduated from Clairton High School in 1942 and worked at US Steel’s Clairton Works as an insulator in the Pipe Shop during WWII.  She was an avid card player, loved to travel with her AARP Group and enjoyed getting together with high school classmates.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Plavchak (dod: March 11, 1981) and all of her sibings, Ann Cerqua, Mary, Patsy, Tony and Domenic (former Mayor of Clairton) Serapiglia.

Lucy is survived by her four children, two sons, Michael “Mickey” (Nancy) Plavchak of Jefferson Hills, with whom she resided and David (Darlene) Plavchak of Highland, New York; two daughters, Helen (late Dr. John) Fallon and Susan Plavchak both of Jefferson Hills; seven grandchildren, Amy and Stephen Fallon, Michael Plavchak, Jr., Michelle and Sarah Plavchak, Cristine O’Connor and Allison Zappone; five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 6 – 8 PM and on Friday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 PM in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills where a Blessing Service will be held on Saturday at 2 PM.  Interment will follow in Ascension Cemetery in Clairton.
