JOHN J. RICHARD, SR.

John Joseph Richard, Sr. age 91 of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 28, 2018 at his home with family by his side.  He was born on October 26, 1926 in Morgantown, West Virginia one of ten children of Acy and Anna Richard.  John served in WW II in the Army; then went on to graduate from West Virginia University as a mechanical engineer and was a design engineer at Bettis Subatomic Power Lab designing nuclear reactors for the US Navy.  He went on to Westinghouse Plant Apparatus Division in Monroeville, Pennsylvania and was responsible for managing the Navy fleet of nuclear powered vessels.  He was an avid WVU and Pittsburgh sports fan, who also loved to golf and bowl.  He was a longtime member of St. Thomas A’Becket Catholic Church in Jefferson Hills, where he served as a lector.

In addition to his parents and several siblings he was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Mark Richard.  He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Fran Richard;  seven children, Elise Herman, John (Diane) Richard, Jr., Paul (Leslie) Richard, Susan (John) Lagnese, Steven Richard, David (Sarah) Richard, Carol (David) Hintemeyer, and daughter-in-law Rebecca Richard; 31 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and 2 siblings, Joseph Richard and Dr. George (Twana) Richard.

Friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home, 1701 Route 51 (Large) Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 7 - 9 PM and on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 10 AM in St. Thomas A’ Becket Catholic Church 139 Gill Hall Road Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025. (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH) .  Followed by entombment at Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors.
