Joan L. Plants, age 80 died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at her home in West Elizabeth, Pennsylvania surrounded by her family. She was born June 8, 1932 in Jefferson Township, Pennsylvania one of two daughters of Robert Thomas Rush and Ida Vern (Hays) Rush. Joan, with her husband Donald of 57 years, was owner of Shadelure tackle and bait shop in West Elizabeth. She was also a member of the former West Elizabeth United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband; four children, three sons, Donald, Daniel and David (Karen) Plants and one daughter, Debbie (John) Shimko; three grandchildren, Zack Shimko, Katie Plants and Lauren Bird; one great-grandson, Isaac Bird and her only sister, Nancy (Gibby) Adams..
Friends will be received from 1 – 7 PM on Tuesday (NEW YEARS DAY).in Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 State Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania with her funeral service held at the conclusion of visitation at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers family suggests donations in her name to the Elrama United Methodist Church, Elrama, Pennsylvania 15038.
