IVA KAY CONJELKO

Iva Kay Conjelko, age 75 of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018 in Providence Point Health Center with her loving family by her side after a year long battle with cancer.

She was born on March 7, 1943 in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the only child of the late Ivan and Anne (Sirilla) Kuchak.

Iva Kay was a graduate of Brownsville High School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from California University of Pennsylvania.  She spent her entire career, over 37 years, as a teacher in the West Jefferson Hills School District and retired in 2002.  She devoted most of her career working in Pleasant Hills Middle School as a seventh grade language arts teacher.  Iva Kay was a passionate teacher known for her love of poetry and grammar.  She was a proud member of the PHMS staff and referred to her co-workers as family.

After retiring, Iva Kay devoted her time to her family and grandchildren.  She was a loving Nana and enjoyed showering them with love and gifts.  She loved the holidays, her favorite being Christmas, and every year she would go over the top decorating her home as a winter wonderland for her grandkids.  Iva Kay also loved gardening and shopping.  She was an only child but had so many special friends in her life that she considered to be her sisters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Joseph Takacs.  Iva Kay is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years Michael; 3 loving children, Joseph Takacs of Potomac Falls, VA, Michele (Keith) Weidman of Charlotte, NC, and Kathleen (Jeff) Genkinger of Cranberry, PA; 4 adoring grandchildren Lilly, Ella and Connor Weidman and Tyler Genkinger and 1 on the way.

Friends will be received at the Stephen Slater Funeral Home, 1701 Route 51, Jefferson Hills, on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 2 - 4 pm and 6 - 8 pm.  A Blessing Service will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 10:30 am in the funeral home with Father Dan Maurer officiating, Her burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery in Pleasant Hills, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
