Helen Maksin, age 94, of Clairton, Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016. She was born Helen Bernadette Bendik on November 2, 1921 in Bentleyville, Pennsylvania, one of seven children of Michael J. Sr. and Ann (Martin) Bendik. Helen was a sales clerk for Kaufmann’s, downtown department store, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the 1960’s and 1970’s and she loved traveling and visiting her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Maksin; a grandson, Keith Maksin; a brother, Michael J. Bendik, and a sister, AnnMarie “Pudgy” Carbonaro. She is survived by her five children, Kenneth (Nancy) Maksin of Upland, California, Carol Jean “Dee Dee” (the late William “Bill”) Frank of Webster, New York, Stephanie (Raymond) Pastore of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, Christine (Greg) Haughton of Charlotte, North Carolina and Diane (Lenny) Pickering of Elizabeth, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Kenneth (Jodie) Maksin of Dallas, Texas, Melanie (Eric) Russell of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Bruce Maksin of Upland, Don (Michelle) Frank of Falls Church, Virginia, Scott Frank of Charlotte, Rayme (Rebecca) Pastore of Wilmington, North Carolina, Nicholas (Andrea) Pastore of Alexandria, Virginia, Melissa Pastore of Lewisburg, Jennifer (Jason) Huff of Charlotte, Julie (Wes) Foreman of Killeen, Texas, Jessica Daniel of Charlotte, Dustin (Amanda) Pickering of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania and Clayton Pickering of Elizabeth; 19 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and siblings, Mildred Petrisin of Clairton, Marge Galamb of Clairton, Irene Casiraro of Mesa, Arizona and Edward “Ben” Bendik of Clairton.
Friends will be received on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 1 – 3 PM and 5 – 8 PM in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania. A funeral prayer will be held in the funeral home on Monday, June 6th at 9 AM, with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10 AM in St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Clairton. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery, St. Clare Cemetery, on Worthington Avenue in Clairton.
