Listen to Obituary

Gregory Paul Smith lived a life of love and devotion and died in his sleep at home in Pleasant Hills, PA on April 21, 2026 at the age of 73.

To all who knew him, Greg was a source of strength and comradery. To his kids he was the “original GPS” long before GPS was a smart phone feature. He knew the roads of Pittsburgh so well that he could guide his kids home when they got lost, and his gentle wisdom provided direction and hope to his family, friends, and community.

Greg was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 14, 1952 and graduated from St. Basil’s High School, then from Duquesne University. Seeking adventure, he traveled throughout North America and across Tanzania, even climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in 1975 and returning to visit 40 years later with his family.

In 1979, Greg married Helen, and together they took great delight in the lives of their children and grandchildren. His family loved Greg’s quiet sense of humor and playful spirit. He instilled in his children a profound appreciation for hiking and camping, trees and flowers, and family road trips.

A consummate connector, Greg loved people and enjoyed finding ways to assist them. He worked as a full-time salesman for Thermal Industries, Malta Windows, and Keystone Waterproofing. He and his wife founded Integrity Windows in 1997 and provided affordable window installation for homes, churches, and hospitals. After retirement, he taught history and civics at Cornerstone Christian Preparatory Academy.

Greg was deeply invested in public service and community involvement. In addition to being a Republican Party conferee and committeeman, he served as an elected official on the West Jefferson Hills School Board for eight years while his kids were attending Thomas Jefferson High School. Greg was then elected to the Pleasant Hills Borough Council, where he served for 14 years and was instrumental in planning and supervising the construction of the new Borough Building. Greg also served as president on the Pleasant Hills Arboretum Board, where alongside fellow board members he enjoyed countless hours of stewarding the Arboretum, planting trees, improving infrastructure, and diversifying the botanical collection.

Over and through and under it all, Greg was motivated by a deep love for his Lord Jesus Christ, and he faithfully used his gifts for loving connection and service in local Christian churches. He was quick to listen and slow to speak, a thoughtful sounding board for all who confided in him.

Greg is survived by his beloved wife Helen and their children Christopher (Ruth), Jason (Naomi), and Stephanie (David); his grandchildren Gloria, Reuben, Miriam, and West; his brother Russell (Jane) and sister Maura (Pete), and numerous nieces and nephews. He is dearly missed by all who knew him.

Well done, good and faithful servant.
