George Bentley

GEORGE  L.  BENTLEY


George Lewis Bentley, age 83, died Saturday, December 24, 2011 at his home in the Shire Oaks area of Elrama, Pennsylvania surrounded by his family.  He was born February 11, 1928 in Elrama, one of eight children to Albert Franklin Bentley and Sarah Mildred (Fuller) Bentley.  He worked for over 45 years at US Steel’s Irvin Works in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.  George served in the Army after WW II during the Occupation of Japan and was a member of VFW Post 803 in Clairton, Pennsylvania.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, William, James, Edward, Glenn and Ray Bentley.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsie (Kromer) Bentley; 5 children, Bonnie Jo Livernois of Asheville, NC, Barry James and George David Bentley, both of Elrama, Jean Ann Montgomery of Forward Township and Kristine E. Bentley of Wilmore, KY; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Elsie L. Young and 1 brother, Gerald (Florence) Bentley, both of Elizabeth.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 State Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania.  A funeral prayer will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:15 AM with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10 AM in St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in the Floreffe / Elrama area.
