Dorothy Ryce

Dorothy Marie Ryce, age 94, of the Mt. Oliver area of Pittsburgh , died Monday, September 13, 2010 in UPMC - Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh . Dorothy worked as a cashier for two grocery stores in the area and was a member of the Eldorado Senior Center . She was born Dorothy Marie Schutzman on June 20, 1916 in Pittsburgh , a daughter of Julius James Schutzman and Eva Elizabeth (Hacker) Schutzman

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Danner “Dan” Ryce on August 20, 1971 and a brother, Alverne Schutzman.

Dorothy is survived by 2 daughters, Carol Schaff of Jefferson Hills and Dorothy Jean Stiteler of Mt. Oliver; 4 grandchildren, Colonel William (Nancy) Schaff, Jr. of Rising Sun, MD, Karen (Greg) Sippos of Floreffe in Jefferson Hills, David Schaff of Pleasant Hills and Christi Mesina of Finleyville; 7 great grandchildren, Christopher Sippos, Stephani Huffine, Tiffany Schaff, Heather Sippos, Lauren Schaff, Amanda Mesina and Jessica Mesina; 5 great great grandchildren, Logan Sippos, Ariana Sippos, Gabriela Huffine, Alysa Huffine and Peyton Sippos and a sister, Bette Kelly of Castle Shannon.

Friends will be received from 7 – 9 PM on Thursday, September 16, 2010 in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 State Route 51 (Large) Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 (412-384-0350). A Blessing service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 11 AM with Father Tom Wilson of St. John Vianney Parish in Pittsburgh officiating. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery on Route 19 in McMurray , Pennsylvania
