DONALD  STABLER

Donald Arvid Stabler, age 82 of Jefferson Hills,  Pennsylvania died suddenly at his home while working in his garden on Thursday, September 5, 2013.  He was born February 25, 1931 in Jefferson Township (now Jefferson Hills), one of four children, the only son, of Arvid Brian Stabler and Clara Marion (Keck) Stabler.

He attended a two room school in the Coal Valley area of Jefferson Township and other elementary schools.  He then graduated from Clairton High School in 1949, attended Grove City College, graduating in 1953 and later received a Masters of Education from the University of Pittsburgh.  Don served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War in the Quartermasters Corps at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.  He never married and taught English and Spanish in the West Mifflin Area school district during the 1960’s and 70’s.  Don retired early to take care of his mother and was an avid Pitttsburgh Pirates baseball fan and Bridge player.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his three sisters, LaVerne (William) Reilly, Elva (Thomas) Stockdill and Doris (Edward) Rutledge (his twin) all of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania; 11 nieces and nephews and many friends.

As per Don’s wishes there will be NO VISITATION OR VIEWING.  His funeral service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 11 AM in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills with Reverend Jody Dausey officiating. His burial will be private.
