DOLORES  CHIR

Dolores M. Chir, age 85, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, December 11, 2013.  She was a life-long resident of Clairton until declining health moved her into an assisted living community.  She was born February 9, 1928 in Clairton a Daughter of George Mitro Kvasnak and Mary (Matusevik) Kvasnak.  Dolores very much enjoyed baking, polka music, the friendship of her neighbors and was extremely proud of her Slovak heritage.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of 55 years, Michael Chir, Jr. on October 16, 2005 and a sister Evelyn Kvasnak.  Dolores is survived by three children, two sons, Michael G. (Diane) Chir of Clairton and David F. (Elaine) Chir of Baldwin and daughter, Karen (Rick) Pealer of Rennerdale, Collier Township; five grandchildren, Eric (Maria) and Laura Chir, Sarah (Jason) Starr and Marie and Rachel Chir; one brother, George (Gerda) Kvasnak; one sister, Mary Thompson and a special neice Elsie (Ben) Cedar of Ravenswood, WV.

Friends will be received from 4 - 8 PM on Friday in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills.  A Parastas service will be held in the funeral home Friday evening at 7:30 PM.  Panachyda will be in the funeral home at 9 AM on Saturday followed by Funeral Liturgy at 10 AM in Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in Clairton, with Father Ivan Mina officiating.  Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery.  In Dolores’ memory please consider a donation to the Lupus Foundation of America (lupus.org) or PO Box 418629 Boston, MA 02241.
