It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of D. Kenneth “Ken” Beachy, who left this world on June 17, 2025, at the age of 82. A devoted husband, proud father, cherished grandfather, great-grandfather and loyal friend, Ken’s life was a reflection of love, quiet strength, and steady grace.
Born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Ken was the only child of Dale and Christine Beachy. From a young age, he exhibited a deep sense of dedication and curiosity that shaped his path. He graduated from Elizabeth Forward High School in 1960 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University. Ken spent his career at Koppers Inc. in Pittsburgh, where he proudly worked in their Railroad Division as a mechanical engineer and was credited with developing three patents.
Ken found joy in the simple things. He loved woodworking, boating, and watching NASCAR. His passion for trains was profound, as he had a lifelong appreciation for their craftsmanship and design. Traveling around the world with his wife, Martha, brought him immense happiness, especially during the many cruises they took together. He also cherished his fishing trips to Alaska with his son Bryan. Ken adored spending time with his family; whether sharing a meal, swapping stories, or watching the grandkids play, he was at his best surrounded by those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce A. (George) Beachy in 1981 his parents, and his great-grandson Ashton Hooper in 2024.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Martha J. (Shawl) Beachy, and their children: Lori (Nicholas) Maffeo; Bryan (Kathy) Beachy; Kristin (John) Balazentis; and Laura (Jamie) Linhart. He was a proud grandfather to Nicholas (Rae), Julietta (Rickie), Marco, Giovanni, Jacob (Ashley), Alyssa, Jessa (Shawn), Jacob, Lucas, Brendan, and Payton. Ken was also blessed with great grandchildren Tucker, Olivia, David, Kingston, Maddox, Easton, Carson, and Zain.
Ken’s kindness, his easygoing nature, and his unwavering devotion to his family made him someone people felt truly lucky to know. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
