Listen to Obituary

Cheryl McCready, age 72 of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania died suddenly on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. She was born, Cheryl Ann Bowers on January 31, 1954, in Homestead, Pennsylvania, one of three children of Frederick L. and Josephine C. (Lazor) Bowers.

Cheryl grew up in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania and graduated from West Mifflin North High School in 1972. She moved to Waynesburg in the early 1990’s and was a substitute teacher in all of the schools of the Waynesburg Central School District. She also worked as the Greene County Office manager for the Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA (DVSSP) from 1999-2023.

She loved connecting with others. Whether at tabling events or simply chatting with neighbors, she made everyone feel welcome. She knew everyone in town, and to her, everyone was a friend. She was especially passionate about parades and played a key role in the parade committee, bringing joy and creativity to every event, especially when costumes were involved.

She was the best mother and an even better "Glamma", always putting her children first and sacrificing her own needs so they could have a better life. She had a gift for finding deals, every free day, and any way to save a dollar. She never made anyone feel bad for asking for help and always found a way, whether through saving, stretching, or securing funding. And true to her spirit, she never let a freebie go or a drink go to waste.

She wouldn’t miss a theatrical play or a festival with her grandkids and always showed up with a bag full of goodies just for them. She was the life of the party, (sometimes the first to arrive, sometimes fashionably late) but always the last to leave, a role she carried throughout her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald McCready and both of her siblings, her sister, Carolyn Atkinson and her brother, Fred “Fritz” Bowers. She is survived by her three children, son, Will (Eileen Kuehn) Fischer, Jr and granddaughter, Destiny Fischer; son, Bradley (Genevieve Bordogna) Fischer and grandchildren, Carson and Emma Fischer; and daughter, Melinda (Chad) Blaine and grandchildren, Ava and Archer Blaine. Cheryl is also survived by her ex-husband William “Bill” Fischer, Sr. and nieces and nephews

Family and friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 (412-384-0350) www.stephendslater.com on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm. A Blessing Service for Cheryl will be held on Wednesday during the visitation in the funeral home. Notice of the time will be forthcoming.

Leaving behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and deep connection to her community, she will be remembered for her generous spirit and the lasting impact she made on everyone she met.
