BOYD  "MAC"  McELRAVY

“Mac” McElravy age 93 of Duquesne, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at his son Jon’s home in White Oak, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, March 26, 2014.  He was born, Boyd Earl McElravy, Jr. in Corbettown, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, near Timblin, on November 26, 1920 to Boyd Earl, Sr. and Pearl (Himes) McElravy.  He was married to Maxine (Kagy) McElravy for 51 years until her death in 1996.  In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Dean McElravy and his sister, Kathryn Flynn.  He is survived by his loving companion, Janet Griffiths of Duquesne; four children, Donald (Marie) McElravy of Palo Alto, California, Marcia (Roy) Davis of Katy, Texas, James (Song) McElravy of Houston, Texas and Jonathan (Christine Reynolds) McElravy of White Oak; four grandchildren, Karen (Allen Sanders) McElravy, Micah (Linda) McElravy, Ginger (Rafael Jose) Valadez and Lance Davis and two great grandchildren, Derek Sanders and Sophia Valadez.

Mac’s family moved to Warren, Ohio in 1925 and he graduated from Warren G Harding High School in 1939.  He apprenticed as a machinist prior to serving in the U.S. Navy.  In 1950 he moved his young family to West Mifflin, Pennsylvania and was employed at the Fisher Body Division of General Motors as a Tool and Dye Supervisor.  He retired from GM in 1981 with over 31 years of service.

He was a strong family man who spent most vacations visiting relatives throughout the United States.  He had many friends and enjoyed hunting, league bowling, golfing and fixing anything mechanical.  He was an avid fan of the Steelers, the Pirates and any sporting event or concert in which a loved one participated.  Mac enjoyed tending his vegetable garden and eating home grown tomatoes.  He actively participated in the life of the First Presbyterian Church of Duquesne, where he helped maintain the church property until very recently when he became physically unable to do so.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 1 PM in the First Presbyterian Church of Duquesne 719 Duquesne Blvd. Duquesne, Pennsylvania 15110, with a reception to follow in the church Social Hall.

Mac’s family wishes to extend heartfelt and grateful thanks to Forbes Hospice workers Jill and Michael, who lovingly cared and comforted our father in his last few months.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mac’s memory to Forbes Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Foundation, so they may continue their valuable work.
