Barbara Starrett of Pleasant Hills in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away in her home on September 2, 2024. She was born Barbara Ann Best on February 11, 1943, in Pittsburgh, the only child of Elmer Clarence and Mildred Ann (Ritzel) Best.
She met her husband Dennis during a third-grade school yard scuffle at St. Agnes school in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. After asking her out at confession on Good Friday a decade later, Barbara claimed she “got her revenge” on him through marriage. They served our country while Dennis was stationed at various Air Force Bases and settled in Pittsburgh to be with family. They created a loving family of eight with six children - Denise (and husband Bryan) Robinson, Peter (and wife Jane) Starrett, Kirsten Starrett, Rachel (and husband Greg) Andricos, Rebecca (and husband John) Murphy, and Nate (and wife Jacqueline) Starrett. Their 21 grandchildren (Sam, Natalie, Jack, Jessica, Elisha, Cole, Serena, Nick, Luke, Grace, Pete, Joseph, Tyler, Jake, Mae, Tess, Rose, Magdalena, Gray, Alden, Dara) range from a newborn to young adults, and live around the country.
Barbara was a woman of faith, an exemplary role model to all who met her, and is deeply loved and missed by many. The world is a much better place because she was in it.
