Alvin Henderson, Sr. age 84, of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017. He was born September 19, 1932 in Large (now part of Jefferson Hills), Pennsylvania one of five children of the late George Benjamin and Agnes Marie (Pickford) Henderson.
He served in US Army during the Korean War; was a member of American Legion Post 712 in Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania; was a lifetime member of the Large Volunteer Fire Company; served on Jefferson Borough Council and was an electrician for US Steel at the Irvin Works and also briefly at PICCO.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Trenton Alvin Henderson and his three brothers, Kenneth “Key” Henderson, George B. “June” Henderson and Melvin Henderson, who was his twin. Alvin is survived by his wife, Theresa (Zitney) Henderson; two children, Alvin (Nadine Fuller) Henderson, Jr. of Crestview, Florida and Beth Ann (Keith) Harvey of Butler, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Jerett and Brent Henderson of Crestview, Florida, Morgan (Troy Mackey) Valecko of Wexford, Pennsylvania, Kyler Valecko of Butler, Pennsylvania, Christian Valecko of Allison Park, Pennsylvania; one sister, Agnes Marie (the late Joseph L.) Miller of Marietta, Georgia and two sister-in-laws, Dorothy (Griffith) Henderson and Frances (Gmitro) Henderson.
Friends will be received on Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 2 – 8 PM in the Stephen Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 10 AM in St. Thomas A’ Becket Catholic Church 139 Gill Hall Road in Jefferson Hills. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. Alvin’s burial will follow in St. Clare Cemetery on Worthington Avenue in Clairton, Pennsylvania.
