John F. Spargal
John Spargal, age 89 of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2023, at home. He was born on August 17, 1933, in the family home in Jefferson Borough (now Jefferson Hills), Pennsylvania, one of three children to Andrew and Barbara Ann (Kampert) Spargal.
He graduated from Clairton High School in 1951; worked briefly at National Tubes, then spent two years in the US Army Signal Corps, stationed in Germany. After his military service, he went to work for Duquesne Light Company and retired after 39 years of service. In his retirement years he went to work for Kennywood installing and maintaining the electrical systems during the “off” season.
John was a “jack” of many trades and the master of them all. He built his own home and remodeled his daughter’s home with the help of his son-in-law, Phil. He also remodeled a family camp at Kettle Creek, and completed many projects at his church, James Chapel on Stone Church Road in Finleyville. He was always ready to help anyone and still found time to go hunting and fishing; and garden and raise cattle on his property.
John, a hard worker, was loved and will be missed!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Daryl Lee Spargal, his sister, Margaret Hood and brother, David Spargal. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joyce (Wray) Spargal; daughter, Sue (Phil) Upton; granddaughter, Laurel Upton and nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 1 pm – 6 pm in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 www.stephendslater.com.
