Kenneth Ray Burkett, Jr., age 79, of Union Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones. Kenny Ray was born on March 2, 1939 in Jefferson Township (now Jefferson Hills) Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, the oldest of two children of Kenneth Ray, Sr. and Grace H. (Beedle) Burkett. He served in the Army during the early and middle 1960’s. He was a truck driver by trade and retired as a driver for Elizabeth Cash and Carry. He has been a member of the Floreffe Volunteer Fire Company since 1960, serving as Chief, Assistant Chief and Trustee before accepting the role of President in 1996 until his death. He was also the treasurer of the Floreffe VFC Relief Association and a member of the West Jefferson Hills Historical Society.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lu Burkett in 1987. He is survived by five children, Kathy (Chuck Ullom) Burkett, Joann (Ted) Panico, Bill Burkett, Tammy Burkett and Jessica (Will Larrow) Burkett; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and his sister, Brenda (the late John) Wray of Jefferson Hills.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 6 – 8 PM and Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 PM in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home (Large) in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania. His Funeral service will be in the funeral home on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11 AM. The Reverend Hal Dangel of the Elrama United Methodist Church in Elrama, Pennsylvania will officiate the service. His burial will follow in Richland Cemetery in Dravosburg, Pennslyvania.
Kenny Ray was always a mentor and friend to all.
